Show CHURCH HAS OBTAINED PART OF SUGAR TRUST STOCK Since It became known that the American Sugar company would te required to dispose of Its stocK in the Amalgamated Sugar company or this city, the Eccles interests and associates have been ready to purchase pur-chase and Manager L R. Eccle6 made two trips to New York for that purpose, pur-pose, but he did not succeed in getting get-ting any of the stock An offer of 75 cents was rejected, but negotia tlons continued for some time, the Mormon church, in the mean time having been invited to take a part of the trust stock The Eccles In terests were told by President Smith that the matter would be given consideration con-sideration but a definite answer, Manager L. R. Eccles says, has never been given as to whether the churcli would join In the purchase. THe American company owned 50 per cent of the stock and the Eccles Interests and associates were ready to purchase pur-chase all of It or sny part of it. The church was given the opportunity of taking half of the trust stock, which would be 25 per cent of the entire capital stock. Manager Eccles states that, in the face of the fact that the church had been given an opportunity to bay tbe stock with the Ogden people he was surprised to know that C. W. Nlbley. representing President Smith, who is trustee in trust for the church, had purchased 50 per cent of the trust stock at $87.50, which is $12.50 more than he had offered. No transfer of tbe stock has been made, Mr. Kccles says, and nothing has been 6ald to him regarding the purchase, but that he and his business busi-ness associates in Ogden will not make further negotiations for the tru6t stock He etates that under the sale of 25 per cent of the stock to the church, the holdings of the Amprican companv now amount to 25 per cent, the same amount is held by the church and the balance, except ten shares held by H. H. Rolapp. is held by the Eccles Interests and others. oth-ers. Speaking of the possibility of removing re-moving headquarters of the Amalgamated Amalga-mated company to Salt Lake, Mr Ec- cles said be does not think that will be done, nor does he think any ehan ges will be made in the directorate. The trust has refused to sell its present holdings and it is the opinion of Manager Eccles that the business will be conducted under the same management as at present. |
