Charles H Mover of the Western Federation of Miners telegraphed to-, night that he was coming to Butte in an effort to persuade the seceding miners to reconsider their action andj come into the federation Billings. Mont . June 15. On new I orders company K, Montana national guard, was mobilized at the armory here awaiting orders to proceed to Butte Washington. June 15 Governor Stewart of Montana telegraphed President Pres-ident W ilson today asking that fed eral troops be sent to restore order in the Butte copper mine districts. At the same time the governor sent messages to the Montana senators i and representatives in congress, urging urg-ing them to call at the White House and support his request. Senator Meyers and Representatives Evans and Stout arranged to see the president pres-ident tomorrow morning In the meantime no one would discuss dis-cuss the situation Members of con- 1 gres? intimated that they were ready to stand behind the governor in any I course he deemed wise to pursue, but it was evident that the call for aid from the national government had come as a surprise. Governor Stewart, in his telegram to the president said there are only 500 militiamen In Montana and that he feared serious trouble was liable to result within the next few days He explained that rioting had resulted re-sulted from conflict between members mem-bers of the Western Federation of Miners and the Industrial Workers of the World Western Federation of Miners mem bers are to hold a meeting tomorrow-night, tomorrow-night, and the Industrial Workers or the World members are planning to organize Wednesday night. On both! occasions, the governor said, conflicts con-flicts are liable to result, and he add-i ed that the home of an officer of the Miners' union already had been wrecked with dynamite by seceding members of the union and two prisoners pris-oners had been taken from the city jail Threats are alleged to have been made to lynch several deputy sheriffs and attack other officials Senator Walsh is at present in Hel ena. Mont., and Is expected to visit Butte to Inquire Into the situation and report to the president. Late tonight Assistant Secretary Breckenridge of the war department was called to the White House and asked what troops would be available for service in Montana, if it became necessary to order a force there. It la understood that Mr. Breckenridge suggested, as the situation In Colorado Colo-rado had quieted down, it would be possible to withdraw some of the cavalrymen now on duty in that state and send them to Butte.
