Show 11 HUNDRED LITTLE ONES MADE HAPPY By SANTA CIS Nearly 200 happy children gathrpfl .it the National Guard armory on twenty-fourth street this afternoon and received gifts from Santa Claus The affair was arranged by the Salvation Sal-vation Army under the direction of llnsign Clement. The children wera eated in thp body of the hall and on the platform wore three large Christmas Christ-mas trees, brilliantly decorated with candles and tinsel On the branches of each tree were hung toys of all kinds and at the food of the trees were small wagons, sleds, and piecetf of miniature furniture. Several larc boxes containing parcels were also placed on the platform and each par eel was tagged with the name and age of the child to whom Its contents would make nn appropriate gift Most of the children had ticket which entitled them to a share in the bounty of Santa Onus, but thero was also a number of toys and bags oi candy for other children present who had not been ghen tickets. In addition to the toys, books stock ings and mittens, each child receiveu ;i large bag of candy and nuts. Ensign Clement said that he dc Ired to thank the merchants and the general public for the assistance given giv-en the Army In this charitable work and said that, in addition to the party for the children today, the Army had arranged to send out fifty dinner bas kets to poor families tomorrow He expressed appreciation of the assistance given him by the ladles ol the corp. |
