Show NEW POSTMASTER OF TREMONTON There Is a growing suspicion that Volney S Peel, erstwhile editor of a I'ernocratlc paper at Tremonton, has presented Democratic National Com iiillleenun Wellace and Democratic State Chairman Thurman with a neat little surprise Christmas package, labeled "Abraham Bikel," postoffice addie-s, Tremonton By way of explanation, It may be ; added that Abraham Blkel wa:s yesterday yes-terday appointed by President Wood-row Wood-row Wilson to be postmaster at Tremonton. Tre-monton. along with Joseph A. Faust at Delta, J M French at Green River, Adel Albert Hulsh at Payson, Isadore I.esslng at Beaver, Niels L!nd at Mid-vale, Mid-vale, Nephl O. Palmer at Farmington 'and J. C. Twaddle at Sunnyslde When National Committeeman Wallace Wal-lace and State Chairman Thurman lead the names of the appointees ye3-I ye3-I terday they were pleased to a certain extent They had recommended all of the men, with the exception of tlkel And right here they were in a ouandn They were not acquainted j w iih Mr Blkel In fact they were j not acquainted with anybody, to their ; knowledge, who was acquainted with Mr Bikel. And to go a step further, , they were unable to understand bow t '. Mr Blkel could be a candidate for ' the postmastership of Tremonton , I without their having in some way ob-I ob-I tamed at least an Inkling of the fact Right at this point Is where Volney S Peet enters the plot and proceeds ; to tear away the eobwebB that have obscured the vision of National Committeeman Com-mitteeman Wallace and State Chairman Chair-man Thurman A good many months I at;o Peet, who was then a resident of Tremonton. advised Mr. Wallace I j and Judge Thurman that h's one ! . dream of the future was to be post-; post-; master at Tremonton. He aJso lu-tormed lu-tormed them that if they would prom ise their support to him he would i purchase the Republican weekly pap-j pap-j er gt Tremonton and re-baptise it into in-to the Democratic faith. Mr. Wal-j Wal-j lace and Judge Thurman thereupon 1 figuratively fell upon the neck of Mr Peel and fold him to go as far as he liked, at the same time promising him that they would recommend him for the Tremonton position Mr. Peet at once purchased the paper, turned it into a Democratic or j gan and began to get exceptionally busy with the tariff and other matters that were holding the center of the administration stage at that particu lar time. Later, trouble began to grew Some of the residents of Box Elder county began to express the opinion that Peet. bad slipped up on the blind side of the Tremonton postoffice job and I 'slugged" it They also expressed ! the opinion that this had been done I while they wore not looking and they I began A vigorous anti-Pcet campaign, i In time the Democratic countv com mince and a committee at. Tremon ton got together and adopted resoln- i ' tions In which Mr Wallace and Judge j Thurman were advised In no uncertain uncer-tain Jancuage that Boxelder county at least, the Democratic organizations of the county did not want to hand over their picture post cards to a postmaster uamed Peet |
