Show PLEA MADE FOR RETIRED MINISTERS Wllllmantlc, Conn., March 21, A plea for half a million dollars mora to provklo for retired Methodist ministers minis-ters and their families was made last night by Rev. Dr. L, C. Clemens of Dos Moines. Ia., at the formal opening open-ing of the seventy-fourth annual ses- j sion of the New England Southern conference of the Methodist Episcopal Episco-pal church. . Dr. Clemens said that when the ' board of conference claimants was organized hi 190S, the church distributed distrib-uted $650,000 to retired ministers. The amount has grown steadily, until un-til last year it was Increased to 51, 100,000. but at least another half million mil-lion dollars Is needed, he said. Rev. Joseph B. Hingley of Chicago spoke along similar lines and detailed hardships suffered by veteran preachers preach-ers and their families. Both Dr. Hingley and Dr. Clemens were pioneer pio-neer presiding elders In the northwest north-west and were adopted into tho Tribe of the Ojibway Indians. |
