Show MEET IN OGDEI A conference was held at the forest service building yesterday which was attended by County Commissioners E. J, Cummings, II. W. Harvey and John W. Moftlt or Wasatch county; County Coun-ty Commissioners H. McCormlck, Edward Ed-ward Evans and Mr. Clark and Bishop Bish-op Evans of Summit county. State Road Commissioner E. K. Moruan "f Salt Lake City and Acting District Forester A. C. McCain, concerning the co-operative construction of a road across the Uinta forest to connect the Duchesne valley and Indian reservation reserva-tion country with Salt Lake City. Pro-vo, Pro-vo, Ogden. Heber, Park Cltj and Ka-mas. Ka-mas. Two distinct routes have respective merits. That which leads south from Ileber through Daniels' canyon and the Strawberry valley to Theodore (formerly Duchesne) Is at present the best roail, and consequently the more traveled; that from Kamas to Stewart's Stew-art's ranch, up the south fork of the Provo river and Wolf creek to Stock-more Stock-more and down the Duchesne valley to Theodore would be nearer, but require re-quire a greater expenditure to place it In as good condition as the southern route The Strawberry valley route would pass through the Strawberry alle reclamation project; the Stock more route would give accessibility to more timber, and would pass the new Wolf creek lookout station, one of the Klnts on the IMnta forest on which a lnokout Is maintained during a dan- I gerous fire season, and would provide J a means of transporting men or equipment equip-ment quickly to this region in case of! a fire emergency Although the interests of Wasatch . county would naturally favor the southern route via the Strawberry valley, val-ley, and those of Summit county the Stockmore route, the commissioners d iire to support the route which will most benefit all, including through traffic. Mr. McCain, who spent six weeks in that vicinity last summer, considering the construction of roam; and other questions will prepare a complete report on the advantages and cost of both routes. This will be submitted to the commissioners of the two counties and the state engineer j and after weighing all points the road which promises greatest benefit I for the expenditure will be selected. I The forest service has $3600 and the two counties will appropriate an equal amount, so that $700 Is avail- I able tor immediate work. The present statn road via Park City to Kamas and H as far as Stewart's ranch is In gooJ ! condition, so that only twelve miles of heavy work would be required to reach the road on the southeast that would require only a comparatively small amount of work. On the south-era south-era route the present road Is excel- lent as far as Heber. ' Either route will form a link In the i Vernal-Salt Lake or Provo automobile I short line. oo |
