Show MORE LID BOUGHT EOR THE BIG CHI FACTORY Ogdrn eannors and other business mn who attended the meeting with Vlre President E. J Phelps and Sales Manager E. H. Temple of the American Amer-ican Can company of New York at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake last evening returned home much pleased over the fact that another large manufacturing Institution is assured for this city. Among those present were: Ralph Hoag. Jake Parker, H. L. Herrlngton. Isaac Pierce, H O. M-ams, M-ams, Thomas Leslie Joseph Wright, Alex Brewer, Richard Stringham, Robert Rob-ert Stringham of Ogden; J. G. M. Barnes and John Barnes of Kaysville; John Mann, Clearfield; W. Clark; Theodore Farley, Provo; I W, Cree, Spanish Fork, and representatives of the canneries at Draper and Sandy. Nearly all the canning men of Utah attended the meeting. Necessarily the Ogden men were there in full force, as the project means much to their interests in-terests and to the commercial uplift of the city and vicinity. Those from other parts of the state, including the canning factory men of Proyo, Spanish Span-ish Fork, Payson, Brigham Morgan and other places were much interested interest-ed in the plan, even though the can factory is to be built in a part of the state other than their own They Joined in welcoming the big factory as a state institution. An agreement was entered into by which the canning men shall give to the American Can compnn their orders or-ders for cans for seven years, beginning begin-ning in 191f, the company to erect a factory here to furnlph the goods. Mr. Phelps stated that Utah Is one of the most promising territories of the western country in the can manufacturing man-ufacturing business and that Ogden is situated in Just the right place to handle han-dle the business. Speaking of the prospects for the Ogden plant, Mr, Phelps said that the output of the plant would more than double within ten years. That the field Is a promising one is Indicated In the fact that the com-pan com-pan asked for no bonus and the representatives rep-resentatives of the company stated that gratuitous contributions w ere not wanted. The company has in the west a large plant in the Hawaiian Islands, one in San Francisco and another In Bellingham. Wash., and the one to be established In Ogden will complete the plan of establishing factories In the west. , This morning a piece of ground 100 h 305 feet on the east end was added add-ed to the site by purchase from the Wheelwright Construction company This will give the company approximately approxi-mately four acres of ground. William Allison selected the site un-1 der in?tructions from Ralph Hoag, president of the Utah National bank, who has been the most active worker in bringing the bip can company to this city. The options were obtained through William Allison and Wlllard Kay, and the land was purchased from M. S Browning John Farr and the Wheelwright Construction company, and is situated Just east of the plant of the Goddard Pickling and Preserving Preserv-ing company at Lincoln avenue and Twentieth street. |
