Show on WESTERN PACIFIC TRACKS ARE SOFT Freight traffic op the Western Pacific Pa-cific was resumed Thursday, and yesterday there were 186 freight trains moving both east and west be tween Salt Lake and San Francisco During the eight-day blockade of the Feather River canyon on account ot the many slides following the heavy rains in California, there accumulated mo;v than 3000 cars of freight on the line. In the Salt Lake yards there were over 500 cars of freight and in the yards of all division points between Salt Lake and Portola, the entrance to the Feather River canyon, were many trains. On the sidings between Salt Lake and Portola. and especially in the vicinity of Elko, all of the pass-ing pass-ing westbound sidings of the railroad were filled with westbound freight From San Francisco to the western entrance of the Feather River can yon all of the freight yards were blockaded with traffic. The movement of trains became so heavy yesterday that the "Western Pacific Pa-cific borrowed motive power from tin" Denver & Rio Grande. Owing to the soft condition of the roadbed through the canyon, freight trains were run at a reduced speed. A large force ol trackmen Is still in the canyon pui ting the tracks In shape so that the freight and passenger business ot the road may be handled on schedule " time. Passenger service between San Francisco and Salt Lake will not be resumed over the Western Pacific un til Tuesday afternoon. This tenta tire date has been set upon advices received from the engineers in cbargo of the rebuilding of the section ol roadbed affected by the slides and storms It is not thought by passen ger officials that passenger traffic will be resumed until Thursday. In thi meantime all through passenger traffic traf-fic will be diverted over the Soutlt-em Soutlt-em Pacific from Ogden to San Fran cisco until the Western Pacific tracks are In condition for passenger travel oo |
