Chicago, 111., April 6, Jack Brit-ton Brit-ton generally recognized as a leading lightweight contender for some time, but a party whom most of the boys in quest of the crown do not care to meet, Is going west in May to make a desperate effort to land a championship champi-onship match with Willie Rlichle. Jack is spoiling to box Freddie Welsh, the English champion, who Is trying to beat him to a quarrel with the king-pin. WelBh is in Los Angeles and there Danny Morgan will take Britton in search of glove trouble of an international interna-tional nature. Welsh whaled Joe Rivers not long ago, and on April L'S he Is to box Leach Cross. There arc plenty of reasons for anticipating another an-other Welsh vlctorj'. Britton and Morgan know this and they will he on the scene some time in May to make a determined effort to corner Welsh. Britton will make any weight that Welsh or Ritchie will make, and he argues that he and Freddie should fight it out for the big test with Willie. Britton is entitled to consideration. He' can scale as low as Is necessary. He has trounced almost every light-Weight light-Weight he has boxed in the past couple cou-ple of years. Ritchie's only reason for not fighting Jack Is that" he does not believe Britton is a drawing card In California. That was true once, but we doubt if It would be the case now. However, Ritchie fears none and will give Jack a chase as soon as the Chlcagoan can show him there will be a gate that will make It worth while for Ritchie to take the chance with the clever Chicagoan. nn |
