Show ACADEMY TEAM WINS FROM THE LOCAS GROCERY Weber academy 48, Lucas Grocery 22. The foregoing tells why nearly 300 enthusiastic wearers of the purple pur-ple and white, of both sexes, did, a snake dance with such vigor that the walls of the academy fairly shooT. They had good reason to rejoice too for the Lucas Grocery team, every member of which la a Salt Lake Y. M. C. A. man, recently won the championship cham-pionship of the Salt Lake Commercial Commer-cial league and js touted as one of the fastest teams in the state. Tho local team had tho advantage in reach, but otherwise the two teams were pretty evenly balanced. Two things were clearly demonstrated demon-strated In the game at Weber last night. The first is that Coach Malcolm Mal-colm Watson has developed a team out of raw material that will be practically prac-tically invincible on Its own floor and able to put up an exceptionally fast pace for the full limit of the game on any floor. The second is that, according to tho large attendance attend-ance of "fans" the hall will be crowded crowd-ed to capacity at the league games. Though all of the Weber team showed marked improvement over form in the last game, two surprises were sprung In the work of Richards and Herbert. Richards has improved greatly in interference, basket throwing throw-ing nnd In his position at center. The jumping and basket throwing of Herbert Her-bert from difficult positions was a feature of the game, Belnap's work, as usual, was high class. During the game he scored 19 points, or as many as the whole Salt Lake team. Twelve of these were from the field and seven were thrown from the foul line out of ten chances. In addition to Belnap's six. field goals, Layman got five, Richards four, Ferrin three and Herbert two. There Is one fault that the. team should work hard to overcome over-come and that is "fouling." This Is evident from the fact that Weber made 25 fouls against 11 for the Salt Lake team, giving the latter a lot of chances to make points. The scoring was about equal in both halves, the score at the end of the first half being 23 to 10. The second half was, however, marked by faster play, Weber going after the ball every minute and the Salt Lake team showing no lack of speed. For Salt ( Lake, Besone threw two field baskets, Erlckson two, Shea one and Wilson one. Schatz threw S field goals out of 22 chances. The lineup was as follows: W. A. L. G. Belnap If. Wilson - Flandre Layman rf Schatz Richards c Shea Herbert rg Erickson Ferrin lg. Besone Referee Marshall of the Salt Lake Y. M. C. A. Next Friday night the Weber academy acad-emy team will meet the Box Elder, high school team at Brigham City In a league game. . no . . |
