J c (Swing One ol the acknowledged authorities upon Burn's works, has raised the point that the Glen-Itlddel manuscripts were loaned not given to Dr Currle who lniei presented them to the Athenum. Mr Lwing declares that Dr. Currle ob-. tained the loan of the manuscripts la I 1797 when ho arranged to write the life of the poet and edit his works, but he never returned the papers to the widow. On this assumption. It is 1 understood that the Burns federation and the Burns clubs of the United Kingdom may test the legality of the sale of the manuscripts by getting Miss Annie Burns of Chalton Hall, who Is a direct descendant of the poet to set forth her claim. |
