Some months ago The Tribune, basing its story upon up-on dispatches received from Mexico and other points, effectively disposed of Mr D.nls R related that Mr. Davis Da-vis had been placed against an adobe wall in the wilds of Mexico and shot full of holes by a federal firing squad. In view of the fact that Davis ar rivod in the city yesterday from New ork and registered at the Semloh hotel, it would appear thai The Tribune's Trib-une's surmise as u hlH lucky star web correct. When seen at the Semloh hotel last night, Davis laughed heartily over the report of his execution. A cop of Tho Tribune containing the alleged account of his death, was sent to him in New York, he said, but owing to tno fact that he was largely Interested In South Sonora. Mexico, and that enemies ene-mies were planning his death, he deemed It best not to deny the re port Davis ald last night that If the federals In Mexico could have had their own way, the report of his death would havo boon correct Ho was a tyujpathlzer with tho .rebels, but he had kept his own counsel A federal officer, however, planned the destruction destruc-tion of Davis and several companions, but Davis was advised of the schomr by a peon, and he and his comradej made their escnpe. They traveled by night and rested by day until they crossed the American border and were safe among their own people. Mr. Davis Is still largely Interested In southern Sonora. He owns a large ranch there and also is interested inter-ested In valuable mining claims, but he says he will not return until the country Is safe for Americans Since his fortunate escape from Mexico Mr. Davis has visited the Porcupine Por-cupine mining district In Canada and also has done a larire amount of de velopment work upon mining claims which he owns In Arizona.
