Show HOUSE SET ON FIRE BY USE OF COAL OIL "Evidence of an alleged case of arson were brought to light this morning when the firemen of the central department de-partment answered an alarm from 2146 Lincoln avenue and found three closets of the house stuffed with kerosene kero-sene soaked rags and a bucket containing con-taining kerosent standing near the seat of the fire. The police wore notified at once and the detectives are thoroughly investigating the case. The house is rented from H. B Forbes by Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Cra-gun Cra-gun who conduct a boarding house there. At the time of the fire theie was no one within the house. It Is believed that a. boarder who became drunk is the one responsible for the Incendiary work. The boarder left the city today. The alarm was sent In to the con-tral con-tral department at 953 o'clock this morning by telephone. A neighbor, living acrosb the street, had smcllcd the smoke and upon Investigating found the fire to be In the boarding house He at once called the department. depart-ment. As soon as tho firemen opened the house, the evidence of incediarlsm was brought before them They found fire blazing In the three rag-stuffed rag-stuffed closets. Two of the recesses were under the stairs and the third blaze was In the basement. A bucket with coal oil also was found. It was but the work of a few moments bo-fore bo-fore the fire was extinguished. The loss is estimated at about $300. The tenants had the furniture Insured for $1,500 When H. B Forbes, the owner of tho building was told of the fire, ho said "Isn't that strange? 1 was going to have the house Insured yesterday " He held no Insurance on tho property. Upon learning of the fire, Mr Cra-gun Cra-gun came from his work and was surprised sur-prised to learn the nature of the blazo Mrs Cragun was in town shopping Upon her return she stated that she believed the crime had been committed commit-ted by the disgruntled boarder on |
