Show SALT LAKE MAY LOSE HEADQUARTERS Rumor has it that Salt Lake City ie to lose the headquarters of the Ore gon Short Line. In fact, that there g to be a complete elimination of thn 'Short Line with ihe merging of that road with the I'nion Pacific, with headquarters either in Omaha or Ok-den. Ok-den. At present the indications are Omaha Oma-ha la to bo the point from which the affairs of Ihe enlarged Union Pacific are to be directed. There are to be rodi si economies enforced Terminal shops are to be increased In importance and less shop work performed at Intermediate places. There is to be a decapitating of heads of departments and at least one general manager is to be pension led. The Cnlon Pacific is to extend from ' Omaha to Sacramento, with trackage j rights to Oakland and ferry privileges to San Francisco. No separate management man-agement Is to be accorded the. Central Pacific. A L Mohler's control Is to cover the entire Union Pacific system j from Omaha to Sacramento If Ogden cannot obtain ihe Union 'pacific headquarters, we are in favot I of Salt Lake retaining Its present Importance Im-portance on the Oregon Short Line preferring to see our neighbor hold Its rights as against a city as far removed re-moved as Omaha. Of course. Ogden is under no obligation to Salt Lake as that community has been constantly attempting to undermine the indus trial welfare of this city, yet we rec ognize that neither Salt Lake nor Ogden can lose In commercial prestige without both cities feeling the blow, and. therefore, we stand with Salt Lako in resisting that which threat ens injury to one or the other. |
