Show GOVERNOR HAS DELIGHTFUL EVENING rCcllnsing all previous social events Jn the annals of the state, the fifth state inaugural ball, held in the Hotel Utah last evening, passed into history. The elaborate program was arranged arrang-ed and carried ouv in every detail by the committees in a highly efficient manner. Truh the "Utah' filled a long felt want last evening and housed the crowd, numbering nearly 2000, without with-out any rarions discomfort, the mezzanine mez-zanine floor, the ball room and the large grill room in the basement being be-ing utilized for the entertainment of the guests. At S p. m., the reception commit -fee arrived and officers of the state militia and the regular army stationed station-ed at Fort Douglass took their ap-ponited ap-ponited positions on the mezzanine to direct the guests Governor Spry and party arris ed shortly afterwards and at S 45 p. m, the reception began The guests ere received, as they stepped from the elevators on to the mezzanine , by memV-ers of the committee, prominent among whom was Mr, m S Browning of Ogden and were conducted to the hall room, where they lomied in line The line passed Blowly through the ballroom to the south side of the mezzanine where all were introduced to the state officials and their whes Ehirlng the reception, which occupied occu-pied nearlv an hour and a half, the following musical program was rendered ren-dered in most approved style, by Peter Pet-er Christensen's orchestra of twenty-five twenty-five pieces, which was stationed in the hotel lobby: Patriotic, "Hall to the Chief." Selection. ""Lohergrin.' Wagner Suite, "Egyptian Ballet," Ltngrie Selection. "Gypsy iove,' . . Iebar ratriotlc, "Star Spaneled Banner" By the time the reception was com pleted. the reception rooms were crowded with guests The bright uniform uni-form of the officers with swords, the beautiful cowns of the ladies and the conventional black of most of the Chilian male guests made a most elaborate picture. It is safe to sa that never were more beautiful gowns worn at a social function in the state, many of the latest ew York and Paris models being be-ing seen and among their charminp wearers were cultured mothers wives Bnd daughters of Utah, who could crare with honor, any social function Jn anv country. A feature of pleasing informality was the meeting and greetiug of friend- from all parts of the state that k only possible at a function of the kind The grand march led by Governor Spr and wife started at 10 p. m . and was followed by program of sixteen selected dance numbers. At 10:20 the srill room was opened nd from that hour until 1 p m., in the large rathskellar which Beats 500 persons, seventy waiters were kept busy serxiDc an elaborate menu to numerous unests while a ten-piecy orchestra discoursed sweet music.
