Show OF va A ciufi TSIP A amr IN via A AA miss pearl williams was of the party the first day out and she sends assurance of a most enjoyable time from mondays standard on board train editor standard examiner ogdan in conformity with the rules laid down by the contest edcor that each young lady shall write a letter furnishing a description ot each days journey each their turn according to their standing at the final count ot votes it falls to me to furnish a description ot the first days travels this being my first and probably my last attempt as correspondent for the standard and examiner I 1 can afford to take chances we left ogden two hours late and arrived at salt lake city at 10 where we took the special pullman palace car sleeper PIat and retired for the night 1 the first gwehe hours were spent in sleeping so I 1 cannot tell you much about the country we passed over but we enjoyed it as we were not disturbed at pocatello the dining car was added to our train aud it was then that we discovered that we were not tho only ones on the as the waiters were so busy that we had to wait until 10 to get our breakfast the excellent service we received on the diner and the fine breakfast atoned for the long wait conductor charles millers kind attention while on the diner will be re by all the contest girls it js very pleasant in the cars today and the girls are all well and happy we have only one gentleman in our car and we have given him the name of bishop glasmann he seems delighted with the name and in the future will be addressed as such on this trip families and friends need not worry about us since the first day has passed so delightfully and the bishop says the rest will pass the same and he knows miss hunter will write a description of our trip down the columbia river tomorrow our party is autte cosmopolitan we have one bishop two baptists two one methodist five ons and six unitarians the bishop who pays the bills said our appetites were poor for breakfast baj he was with the bill for dinner so we are not starving by any means we are alone in our car ex two ladles from salt lake cand this th first day has passed pleasantly to all we are now near ang huntington on the idaho oregon ime the country begins to look greener and more prosperous parents relatives and friends need not worry about us we are doing nicely in tact bavine a good time on tha cars all the fairway em aloyes help the bishop to make it peasant for us I 1 think for the first time I 1 have made a fairly good effort to recite the first days doings PEARL WILLIAMS DEATH OF RUBY WILLIAMS ruby glidewell williams daughter of mr and mrs 0 E williams died yesterday morning at at the family residence twenty first estreet of consumption ruby was taken last fall with la grippe and from that time it seems the dread disease has made hera sufferer until the great make saw fit to call her home her demise is sad news to all who knew her for her disposition was one of love and kindness she was a student of the grant school and in her studies was exceptionally tio nally bright time of funeral will be announced later fc OPENS NEW GYMNASIUM i A new gymnasium will be opened tomorrow by L B smyth in the rear of store at twenty fourth street the gymnasium has been fitted up ith parallel bars a punching bag horizontal bar and lifting machines in connection with the gymnasium there 1 a shower bath and forty eight lookers for tho use of tho members ogden has long felt the need of sucha gymnasium and while the new club Is starting in a modest manner there has been but bittle difficulty in securing a large list of members I 1 A the fall if the membership warrants an athletic instructor will be engaged and classes ormed at present ahe sole object of the club is to furnish healthful exerciser for its members although to many the shower bali will be tho chief attraction and will be greatly appreciated by those members who are obliged to board it is desirable that all who desire to secure membership in the club communicate muni cate with mr smyth at once as the lockers will be given to those who are first on the membership list HEAVY NORTHERN TRAFFIC Y the travel through ogden yesterday to the north was exceptionally heavy and it wag necessary dout two doubis header passenger trains during the day to handle all the cars this rush is largely due to the large number ot medical men traveling to portland to abeln the convention to be held in that city A special train of 6 cars belt ogdan as ast 1st no 9 yesterday morn ins regular no 9 was of 16 cars tour of which were extra pullman sleeping cars used by men i of the medical profession which necessitated the second engine to bs at cached to the train here no 7 at 1125 yesterday morning also had three extra pullman sleepers in the train occupied by mel j ical men mailing a total ot 15 cars and a second engine was also attached to this train |
