Show MORE SCANDAL OVER STATE FUNDS. Culbert L. Olson, one of the leading attorneys of Salt Lake City and well known in Ogden, in a speech in Salt Lake last evening, called call-ed attention to the fact that a new bank for Salt Lake City is being! promoted, of which Governor Spry is president, and Secretary of, State C. S. Tingey, Attorney General A. R. Barnes and State Treasurer Treas-urer David Mattson, vice presidents. This sheds new light on the following proposed amendment to the constitution of Ttah to be voted on at this election: "A JOINT RESOLUTION PROVIDING AN AMENDMENT TO SECTION 17, ARTICLE VII.. OP THE COSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF UTAH, RELATING TO THE DUTIES OF THE AUDITOR AND OF THE TREASURER. "Do it enacted by the legislature of the state of Utah. Uvo-thiida Uvo-thiida of nil of the members elocte I to each of the two houses concurring therein- 'Section I. That it is proposed to amend Section 17, Article VII.. of the constitution of the state of Utah, so that the samo will read as follows- "17. The auditor 3hall be .tuditor of public accounts. Tho . public moneys ahcll be deposited by tho treasurer, uiider Iho su- f pervislon of the board of examiners, and as provided by law." See. 13. Article Vfl of the constitution of Ttah says: "The board of examiners ehall consist of the governor, secretary of state and attorney general." Consult your official ballot for this election and you shall discover dis-cover that Spry is running for governor, David Mattson for secretary of state and A. R. Barnes for attorney general on the Republican ticket. j There vou have it . 41 A new bank. Spry, Mattson, Barnes, promoters. , , State money to be handled by board of examiners, under proposed pro-posed constitutional amendment. Spry, Mattson, Barnes to be the board of examiners. Does this look good to you, Mr. Voter, in the face of what has boen disclosed as regards to state funds? We have been told that the above new constitutional amendment was to do away with the possibility of juggling with slate funds and would eliminate the undesirable features of the present law. To onr mind, taken in connection with the promoting of this new bank in Salt Lake, the viciousness of the present law is being multiplied an hundred fold. You will observe that the proposed law does not call for interest on state funds and that David Mattson will continue to say where state funds shall be placed. This whole thing is scandalous aud outrageous |
