Show i SPRY AS A FORGETFUL DIRECTOR. Governor Spry is quoted by his own paper as saying last night at his Ogden meeting: "There was absolutely no necessity for them to secure that affidavit af-fidavit to the effect that T am really a director in the Merchants' bank, because of the fact that the matter has never been denied.' This is what we call the essence of gall. The governor went over the state, after tho state fund expose, saying he did not know he was ii director in the Merchants bank "until a few days ago." Now mark how cleverly the governor states his case ho never denied he was a director. Of- course he never denied he was a director, di-rector, but said he did not KNOW ho was a director, and that is why his oath of office as a director was published to prove him to, be a. very forgetful governor. ' When the Standard showed that if the governor had forgotten he was a director, then he must have been a dummy director and open to severe censure for allowing himself to occupy the position of one neglectful of a most important trust, the governor tried to crawl out by the evasive statement that he never DENIED he was a director. All of which proves that the governor is doing considerable squirming on this state fund issue. By the way, the Herald-Republican and Logan Journal were two of tho papers that first quoted the governor in his Logan and other speeches as declaring he did not know he was a director in the Merchants bank "until a few days ago." |
