Show METHODISTS IN CONFERENCE Salt Lake,. Aug 16 The annual state conference of the Methodist church opened Its sessions yesterday morning at the First Methodist church In this city. A meeting was held yesterday yes-terday afternoon by the Woman's Home Missionary society of the church and another general meeting was held last night Bishop McConnel of Denver, who has charge of church affairs in the district comprising Utah, Colorado, AVyomlng and New Mexico, in presiding over the meetings, Officers were elected at the morning morn-ing meeting yesterday for the ensuing en-suing year. They were as follows. Samuel Allison, secretary; R, P. Nichols, Nich-ols, treasurer; D. E. Carter, statistical statisti-cal secretary. Standing committees . were apiointed to have charge of the , various departments of the church work In Utah. Iu the report of Dr. H. J. Talbot, state- superintendent of missions, read yesterday morning, missionary affairs in tho church were showu to be In . excellent condition. A review of much of the work done by pastors of the ; church in this state formed a large part of Dr. Talbot's report He es- pccially commended the Rev.
