Show HEAVY TRAFFIC EMPLOYING MANY MEN The local officials of the freight department of the Harrlman system state that an unprecedented increase In traffic has been ovldenced during tho past thirty days, tho amount of rolling stock having nearly doubled since July 15. Ton additional freight crews have been put on by the Southern Pacific, each crow consisting of n. conductor, two brakemon, elnglneor nnd fireman. This brings the total up to fullv 100 men working freight' runs out of Ogden Og-den on the Southern Pacific at the present time. The records at the local offices show that the present business Is heavier than at any time during the last Tour years. Most of this increased in-creased traffic is due to tho greatly increased fruit crop of California, these shipments east accounting for the Dusiness in that direction and tho almost daily trains of empty cars niOM'ng westward to supply the demand de-mand accounting for the westward movement of rolling stock. There has been a big Increase In productive acreage nnd seeral of the valleys of California and Nevada hao" had large tracts of orchard land come into bearing this year for the first time. |
