"Faint heart never won fair maid" Is an old proverb which has prompted many a man to vallnut deeds, tho results re-sults of which have often paved his way to life-long happiness. In the same breath, wo might say that "Faint heart never won fair experience." At least, that's the way Mrs. Ruth Calkins Cal-kins of Rochester, N. Y., interprets tho popular proverb. Mrs. Calkins is the owner of a Ford Touring car She wanted to tour tno country in her car, the same as sne had read and heard cf thousands of Ford owners doing, but the advices and admonitions of her friends againsi the hardships of touring without masculine mas-culine aid, put quite a check to he-ambitions. he-ambitions. Then she rememberea about "Faint heart, etc ," and decided that she would experience the beauties beau-ties of motor travel despite the opposition oppo-sition of her friends. Recruiting from her acquaintances three other young ladles who had plenty plen-ty of faith in her ability as a chauf-feuse, chauf-feuse, repair mistress and general roadguidc, Mrs Calkins prepared lor a tour In her Ford through the eastern states to Ottawa, Canada, and return It was late in the summer when the Ford car with Mr3. Calkins at the wheel, and accompanied by Miss Mabel Ma-bel Hanna, Miss Mabel Kersberg and Miss Raytie lleuman deserted the smooth pavements of Rochester and started northward over the country roads to Ottawa. New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Canada were passed through in turn and an entire month spent In making the 2,000 miles to Ottawa and return No time limit was set for the tour and the four ladles greatly enjoyed tho leisure of louring by day and stopping at the various hotels for tho night, 's lodging. While good roads were encountered for the most part, at one point on the return -trip, the mud was almost up to tho axles of the car. but by careful op oration of the car, none of the young i ladies wero required to abandon the car in search of the services of some ' good farmer and his sturdy team ol horses. , Whether good luck was with the faiv tourists or whether it was the careful i driving of Mrs. Calkins, it Is hard to I judge, but it is sufficient lo say that ' not a mishap of any Kind or nature i with the exception of cleaning the I spark plugs In one instance, occurred in all of the 2,000 miles of travel to mar the beauties of the Journey. Tire trouble was an unknown experience, much to the delight of the travelers. Greatly plpased with their outing, did the four ladies return to Roches ter. promising themselves greater enjoyments en-joyments for next year, when a more extensive trip will be planned. Mrs Calkins is much elated over her ex-1 cellent handling of the Ford car and j points with great pride to the fact that i only once in the entire trip did ah'-stall ah'-stall Hip motor and that was to avoid a collision at a sharp turn in the I road (Ad, ertiseinenu Read the Classified Ads. ; I Don't waste energy counting j them spend it in convincing '-r jJIIII yourself that the silent, Vanadi- I ll mu built Ford is the car you j j j ought to have and can afford j Ij-' right now.
