Show VILLARD'S PUNCH PUTS KEARNS OUT New York, Dec. 28. jess Wlllard knocked out "Soldier" Kearns in the eighth round of a. scheduled ten-round bout at Madison Square Garden last night. The knockout came suddenly Kearns landed a hard left to the ribs and a right hook to the neck. The blows appeared to anger the Texas fighter and lie immediately rushed in and in a mixup brought a left hook up under Kearns chin and followed quick-1- with a right hook. Kearns propped prop-ped backward and was counted out Neither fighter showed much knowledge knowl-edge of boxing Willard, wiio had an a d vantage of half a foot in hoj g h t. missod many swings. Kearns played mostly for the body, but wasted his blows on Wlllnrd's arms. The weights were: Willard, 221; Kcnrns, 19G. Wlllard scored a knockdown in the first round with a right hook to the Jaw, but Kearns rose immediately. In tne fifth both men wore tired Wlllard drew blood with a left Jab to Kearns' nose. Kearns, after missing with a wild swing, flounder to tho floor on all fours. |
