It is said that the weather condi- r tions of tl10 nnst two eeks have been r. ideal for the beet fields. 4 Mr. Pingree states that one essen tial at this time is the destruction of weeds in the beet fields Tho sun Is ao warm at this timo and tho watering of the crops so well done that weed3 grow like mushrooms. They should . be dug up. Weeds, says the superin- tendent, are great absorbers of water ; and if they are not removed from the t : fields, they will take as much moisture mois-ture as the beet crop, i Mr. Pingree says that if the beet growers will only see to tho cultiva- Hon of their crops next month, water I the ground well and keep It free from weeds the harvest will be abundant.
