Show GRAZING OF SHEEP ON FORESTS Assistant Forester O M Butler of the silviculture department has returned re-turned fro man extended trip through the Payette, Idaho, forest. Mr. Butler, and Forestor Homer E Fenn of the grazing department, have been making observations regarding the experimental handling of a herd in the Idaho country, the purpose being be-ing to learn something of the effect of sheep grazing on tho foreBt ranges. The forest service department this year leased a band of sheep, divided Into two herds, for a period of five years that demonstrations regarding grazing among young trees, and on all kinds of forest lands, might be made. One of the great questions to be solved on the Payette forest will be that of grazing sheep in rough and rocky sections of country, and also the effect sheep grazing "has on forest for-est lands, where there is a heavy growth of young pine trees. |
