Show BUMPER CROPS OF FRUIT THIS YEAR Fear Expressed That Orchardists Will Not Have Help Enough to Gather the Peaches Schools Boards Will Be Asked to Allow the Children to Hfelp in Harvesting Crop. E. S. Hall of tue Ogden Fruit Growers' Grow-ers' association states that the Weber county crop of peaches will be a bumper In point of tonnage and quality and the growers will get reasonably good prices. The prospects at this time, he says, for average prices are flattering and he thinks thero will be no difficulty In placing the big crop on the market advantageously The most sorlous problem confronting confront-ing the association and the fruit growers grow-ers is that of "picking and packing.' Mr. Hall says that overy person who can gather fruit "will be needed in the work. He says that the country beards of education can well afford (o dismiss the schools In fruit districts during tho fruit gathering season, about two wcokH lu Septembor, to permit the children over 8 years of age to aid in the harvesting of the crop. He says that he will not only appeal to the schoolmen on this question, ques-tion, but that he will ask the business interests of Ogdon and outlying dm-1 tricts to use their influence toward the closing of some of the schools at that time. It 16 considered important, first, that the crop be taken caro of and, second, that the monoy for the picking and packing of tho fruit be kept at home. To hiro Japs and other foreigners to come to Weber county and gather the fruit means that thousands thou-sands of dollars that should be kept at home will be taken away. Mr Hall Is optimistic as to the harvest har-vest In tho orchards of Weber county I this year and he Is bending his everv effort to get the best results. |
