Bryan, deputy warden of the Rawlins penitentiary, left for Wyoming Wyo-ming yesterday after a 24-hour investigation. in-vestigation. According to Bryan, a telegram was received at the Rawlins prison stating that a guard from that Institution Insti-tution had caught two of the desperate desper-ate criminals who escaped from thero last week and that transportation should be sent to Ogden. The telegram tele-gram stated that the men had been captured at Lagoon and as the guard who Is supposed to have written the message has captured other escaped prisoners tho message was thought to be authontlc and transportation for three men was sent to tne ticket of-flco of-flco of the Union Pacific. When the guard did not return to the prison with the convicts the authorities au-thorities becaem alarmed and sent Deputy VIdder to imestigate. Whon he arrived in Ogden he found the transportation had not been asked for and o trace of tho guard or his I prisoners could he found. Thinking that perhaps the man had been overpowered over-powered in some rooming house, a canvass was made of the' hotels in the city, but no trace of the men could be found. Inquiries addressed to the sheriff of Davis county revealed reveal-ed tho fact that the authorities thero knew nothing of an arrest at Lagoon. Deputy Bryan left last night, thoroughly thor-oughly puzzled over the telegram and its request and has asked the local authorities to look into the matter. nrt |
