Show L'U STARTS WORK ON BIG GAS HOLDER Work of constructing tho new gas holder for the Utah Light & Railway company commenced this morning The new holder is to bo a large one, holding when filled 200,000 cubic feet of gas. The gas tank now in use holds but 50,000 cubic feet. Tho new holder will be constructed near tho gas plant west of the Rio Grande freight station. J. J. Burke &. Co. of Salt Lake will have charge of tho construction. The force of men began to drive tho piles which will form part of the foundation this morning. Four hundred hun-dred piles, each 12 feet long, will be driven into the ground. ,Upon the top of these piles a slab of reinforced concrete con-crete 15 feet square will be placed. The water basin will be constructed upon the concrete and above that will bo the two Jointed tolescopo gas holders. hold-ers. These holders may be lifted by pressure to hold an quantity of gas up to 200,000 cubic feet If occasion arises, still another holder may be added. When completed thc structure will bo 75 foot high. The contract for the foundation calls for its completion in five weeks. Work on tho steel part will begin in CO days, when the material will have arrived. The entire Btructuro Is to be completed complet-ed by March 1, 1913, A car load of pipe arrived yesterday yester-day for tho work of Improving tho piping of the plant. The contract for this work has beon given to thej Wheelwright Construction company of Ogden. A lG-inch ninin will bo used to carry the gas from thc holder to the city mains, and other 10-lnch pipes will bo used to equalize the supplv of gas In dlffcront parts of tho city. . oo |
