Show JOKE IS NOW ON! THE OTHER FELLOW It s not always true that "when Greek meets Greek there comes a tug of war." A case Is on record where the combat was decidedly ono-sided. ono-sided. John Reges, a Greek swore out a complaint against Peter Papas a fellow fel-low countryman, charging him with assault and battery. Papas was tried this morning before Judge W. H. Reeder in the police court. Neither of tho men concerned could apeak very plain English nnd the 1 court had difficulty in securing a correct version of the affair, ,but, af- ; ter much questioning, the story was unfolded. Accorlng to Reges, Papas struck him in the face after he had asked Papas to quit stealing grapes from his dlnnor buckeL The blow waB so strong that it knocked out two teeth and put Roges out of tho fight Papas excused himself by stating that Reges was crazy and that he was just playing with the man. He admitted that he should not have struck such an old man a hard blow ibut to him the whole affair was a Joke. Judge Reeder did not' think it was so humorouB, however, and gave Papas a sentence of twenty days or $20. nn |
