Show DISCOVER BONE 'OFUSTODOI Evidence of the discovery of what Is believed to be the remains of a mastodon has 'just been brought to this city in the form of a large leg I bone, which Is now on exhibition at j the local office of E. W. Nowcomb, I signal engineer for the Oregon Short ' Line. Whllo the bone has not as yet been examined -by any person who I is capable of passing expert Judgment, Judg-ment, the hugo proportions of the find indicate that It could have scarcely belonged to any other animal. The discovery was made by J. S. Orr, a signal construction foreman, who was superintending Borne work on the Oregon Short Line at Medbury Hill near Glenn's Ferry, Idaho. This was several days ago and, according to Mr. Orr, who arrived here yesterday, yester-day, it would be possible by a great deal of excavating to secure the entire en-tire skeleton. One of the men In the construction gang Is Bald to have secured a largo tusk, but this was not brought to this city. The bono, which Is now at tho office of the local signal engineer, waB found near the surface of the ground, but ijrtlp fairly' good condition. That mastodons were not foreign to this section of tho country has been fully demonstrated by previous finds of this character and by the statements of BcIontlatB. The discovery made by Mr. Orr has been brought to the attention of authorities au-thorities of the Idaho State university at Moscow and steps may be taken to. secure a collection of the bones foi the school. oo M.
