The petitioners fire Mrs Harriof. L.Blalsdell, of Champaign, 111., and Caroline C. Johnson, of Fayette. O., nieces of Charles Durkee Franklin H Head, as administrator, filed his roport closing tho estate. In March, 1S72. Tho applicatlou for an administrator Is made to bring out tho facts In regard to the famous claim against tbo government known a tho Durkee claim, n which it was allege 1 that Durkee deposited with the government In 1805 stocks and bonds of Pacific railways valued at $20,000,000 The amount of the claim, with accrued interest, grew rapidly, and It Is now estimated at $100,-000.000. $100,-000.000. The claim has been beforo the United Statoa courts, congress, and through all tho claim departments depart-ments of the national government, but this Is the first tlmo that any of the heirs of the former senator havo taken any part In formal claims for the money. In order to flnanco the necessary litigation in the struggle for tho money, mon-ey, shares In the claims werq sold throughout WJBCOnsln and Minnesota, and those are now held by thousands of persons In thoBc states. Judge Gcorgo W. Taylor of tho county court said ho probably would name an administrator. |
