Show CHANDLER PAIO EXPENSES OF SUIT CONCORD, N. H., SepL 21. At today's to-day's hearing In tho litigation over tho will of Mrs. Mary Baker Eddv, William E. Chandler testified that he paid all the expen&esxf tho case from February 4, 1907, to November 10, 1909. He said that .the New York World, which began tho Investigations Investiga-tions tind which employed Mr. Chandler Chan-dler for a time, refused to engage in private litigation and paid none of the exponscs after February 4, 1907." The famous "next friends" suit of 1907 was carried on by Mr Chandler as counsel' for George W. Glover of Lead, S. D., and other heirs of Mrs. Eddy. Questions today, which Mr. Chandler Chan-dler said tended to disclose witnesses by whom and In the manner in -which he hoped to prove hlB case in the present litigation, he declined to answer an-swer and was upheldjn this position. Mr. Chandler said the expense of the litigation which he. paid was about $2,000. In signing the settlement agreement, Mr. Chandler said ho Intended In-tended to agree that there would be no contest of any lawful will of Mrs. Eddy by her son and adopted son, but did not Intend toagrec that thore be no contest of any provision In her will at variance with the law. 1 |
