Show M ; ' ARRESTED FOR OREVflNAL LIBEL. Hl V ast evenine thc publisher of this paper had warrants issued H .'r lhc arrcst George Wilson and IT. Smith for criminal libel Hi Those two Peons are printing a little sheet and distributing it Hl ' around town, accusing many of the leading citizens of Ogden of all H t sorts of crimes and misdemeanors. No one seems to have'been free Hft , from their attacks. Thc men do not care how false and untrue are H thc statements they make. Without one atom of fact for a foun- H elation they charge the mayor with having received money from thc m liquor interests during the election contest last June for his sup- H port (which he did not give). They also charge him, witii others with i having stolen money from the Pair association. Tho mavor has H . sworn to a complaint, stating under oath that all the statements are Hl ' , absolutely false and without even one scintilla of truth to them. H These samc en charge thavfc the city councilman entered into H a corrupt deal with the mayor and city attorney and thc liquor in- i terests to rcPeal the liquor ordinance. Every one knows that the H mayor was opposed to thc repeal, and vetoed it. H As a rule, this paper has paid little attention to what people m , have said about its employes or owners, but when people deliberately m lie about us and repeat the lies week after week, and such are without m responsibility, being almost total strangers to the community there H is only one way in which to successfully refute their false charges H and. that is to hale them into court. ' H Wilson and Smith have repeatedly stated that they have the H' , Proof t0 mnke th charges good. If they have the proof they will H ' Bo free; if they cannot furnish the proof they must take their pun- 1 Ashmen t. H1 'J-n' 'U,umber of other eod citizens feel much aggrieved at what H J Wilson and Smitli have published concerning them and it is stated H i J ithat several other criminal charges are yet to follow those made bv H- i 'the mayor. |
