Show BRIGHAM PATRIARCH DEAD. Brlpham City, Sept. 21. Another of Brigham's old citizens has passed away. Early Tuesday evening William L. Watklns died at his home, corner First East and First North streets, after a brief illness. Watklns was born In Islington, London, England, February 27, 1827. He joined the Mormon Mor-mon church in England in 1842, and sallod for the United States In" tho fall of that year. After a ten weoks voyage, Mr. Watklns landed In New Orleans, where he remained for 6omo time, then continued on his way o Nnuvoo, 111. In 1S-14 he went to Kentucky Ken-tucky for thr purpose of dispensing the views of Joseph Smith on tho policy of the United States government. govern-ment. Ho was married in 1S-M to Mary Hammond of New York state, and in 1S46 was compelled to start tho pjqneor trip across the plains. lie romalned in Iowa until 1852. At that time the trip to Salt Lake was commenced and tho Watklns family resided there until 1861, at which time they moved to Brlgham. and since that time they have resided In this city. Watklns was again married In 18G7 to Teah J. Johnson Ho was the father of twenty children, fifteen of whom are yet living. Besides a widow wid-ow and fifteen children ho leaves 101 grandchildren and aliout thirty great grandchildren Time of funeral services ser-vices hns not been announced yet. |
