Portions of the wreck of the battleship Maine, now being cleared of mud and debris In Havana harbor, are to be donated to cities, patriotic societies and the survivors or heirs of survivors of the Maine, under a plan presented to tho houso today in the urgont deficiency de-ficiency bill. . Tho bill carries $2,270,000. It authorizes au-thorizes and -additional appropriation ot $150,000 for raising the Maine, making a total appropriation of $900-000 $900-000 for that purpose. Tho bill would authorize the secretary sec-retary of war to "give some portion of the wreck" to tho lepubllc of Cuba for Incorporation in a public monument monu-ment to be erected in Havana. Jt uould also authorize the secretaries of war and the navy to donate pieces ot the battleship or its equipment or the property found in it to "any municipality of the United Statos or to the former officers or crew of tho Maine, or their heirs, or representatives." representa-tives."
