Show REFERENDUM FOR lOITJUMVOTEIS BUTTE, Mont., April 24 For the first time in Montana's hlBtory the referendum provision of the state constitution con-stitution is to be invoked Labor bodies bod-ies -of the state are seeking repeal of the Doiiohuo militia law, which makes tho National Guard conform to the provifalons of the Dick. law. Petitions Pe-titions wero circulated simultaneously simultaneous-ly lu every section of tho state calling for a referendum election The labor bodies claim that the law discriminate unconstitutionally ugalnst tho rights of unions and societies so-cieties of laboring men. Tho section of the law to which the labor people object says: "Section 10S No association or corporation, cor-poration, constituted or organized for the purpose of promoting the success of tho trade, employment or business of the members thereof, shall by any constitution, rule, bj-law. resolution, vote or regulation, discriminate against an member of the National Guard because of such membership In respect to the ellglbllltj of such member mem-ber of tho National Guard to membership member-ship In such association or corporation; corpora-tion; and any person who aids In enforcing en-forcing any such provision against a member of the said National Guard with intent to' discriminate against him because of such membership shall be guilty ol a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not less than $25. nor exceeding ex-ceeding 3500 or by Imprisonment in tho county jail for a term not less than ten days, nor more than six months, or both such fine nnd imprisonment." |
