Nov, where the Mornn companv Is constructing con-structing a $100,000 dam under a contract con-tract with tho Pacific Reclamation company, which is furthering an irrigation irri-gation project covering 3G.000 acres of arid land near Wells. Mr. Moran doclared that unless something unforeseen un-foreseen shoulJ happen the work he had undertaken would be finished not later than November 15, nearly a month berore the date of completion called for In the contract. He said that he now has close to 100 men and teams at work, and that this force would be more than doubled Just as soon as tho hasp work for the laying of the dam was fully prepared. According to figures given by Mr Morani tho big dam, when completed, will he 130 feet high, 250 feet wile at tho bottom of the canyon "V" and 150 feet wide at the top. Its construction construc-tion will be along the latest modern lines In reinforced concrete. The wa ler will bo backed up the canyon for a distance of three or four miles, forming form-ing a great reserve reservoir through which 12,000 of the 36.000 acres Included In-cluded In the project will he brought under irrigation In this connection many miles of canals will bo built for distributing lines Dams for storase purposes and to feed the remaining tracts are to be constructed within the year, according to present plans Near the center of the new district a townsltc has been laid out under the name of Metropols It Is said that contracts have been let for a hotel on tho site to cost In the neighborhood of ?52 000 for a water main system covering S.000 feet- for an improved sewer svstem and for an electric light plant Optimistic faith In tho destiny of the now section is Bhown In the Interest In-terest taken hv the Harriman system, which, it is said, has lot contracts for the building of a branch line from Till asco. on the main line of tho Southern Pacific Just west of Wells, to the new townslto Mr. Moran declared that ttfwas expected to have the proposed line In oporatlon by October 1 at the latest" ' oo |
