Show CARS FALL FORTY FELT Train Breaks Through a Bridge on the Denver & Rio Grande Grand Junction, Colo., July 20. What might have been a serious wreck was aveited when, contrary to custom, a. freight train on the Denver Den-ver & Rio Grande railroad preceded tho trans-continental express a f&v mlnutes out of Debeque this afternoon after-noon and broke through a bridge pver which the express train was due to pass a few minutes later. The fRfilght train had waited at Debeque for the express train to pass, but the dispatcher dis-patcher finally allowed It to go ahead. The freight train reached the bridge nnd the engine passed completely over, when the structure gave way, allowing four cars and the tender to fall a distance of -10 feet. The engine and the rear end of the train remained re-mained on the track. No one was injured. in-jured. A flagman rushed back and signaled tho passenger train. The bridge had been weakened by the swelling of the stream, due to a cloudburst. |
