Show FIRE THREATENS PACKING PLANT The largo plant of the Ogden Packing Pack-ing & Provision company on West ; Twenty-fourth street was threatened with destruction by fire last evening, when a fire in the smokehouse got beyond be-yond its usual limitations and would have spread to the main structure but for the timely arrival of the firemen. Being constructed of masonry and iron, tho smokehouse was not badly damaged, but had the lire spread to the main structure of wood tho loss would doubtless have amounted to thousands of dollars. The lire in the smokehouse is maintained for the purpose pur-pose of smoking meats and hardwood is used. For some unknown reason it burned with unusual fury last evening, and a few minutes before 7 o'clock th firemen fire-men were summoned They found that the fhunes had heated the interior of the building until the steel supports and braces were red hot. The fire was put out by the use of the chemicals, chem-icals, and It was found that only the door of the structure had been seriously seri-ously damaged by warping. |
