To that end 50,000,000 is to bo spent dur-Ing dur-Ing the next four years in deepening the channels of the River Elbe and constructing new docks and railroad connecting branches. Several of tho existing docks which now only accommodate accom-modate rivor craft are to be deepened for sea-going ships, and quay spaco will bo clearod for the erection of miles of new warehouses. Tho main channel of the Elbe below Hamburg is to bo deepend to thlrty-threo thlrty-threo feet and to be made a minimum width of 1,233 foot. The connection of tho new1' basins requires a large number num-ber of draw bridges and tunneling un-der un-der the- river bed. The works at the Hohlbrand branch of tho Elbe arc In Prussian territory hut with the consent of the Bundej-rnth Bundej-rnth they will bo Included In tho Hamburg Ham-burg free harbor district.
