Show STAGE RIDER KILLED AT GOLD CHAIN MINE Eureka, July 2C Henry Stagg, stage rider at the Gold Chain mine, was SnsLintly killed while at his work yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. He was knocked out of the cage on the 400-foot level and fell to the bottom bot-tom of the shaft, a distance of about COO feet, his bodv being terribly mangled. Ed Lemmenor, foreman of the 400-foot 400-foot level, and Nels Nyman were working near and heard Stagg yell. They rushed to the place just as he disappeared down the shaft. Stagg had fastened the car on the cage and put down the guard rails ready and then had given tue signal to hoist It is thought that he must have discovered dis-covered something wrong with the machine just as It started and leaned over the s'de of the cage when ho struck the timbers .at the top of this level and was thus dragged from the cage, dropping more than 500 feet to instant death. Stagg was twenty-five years old and had been living In Mammoth for about seven years. At the time of his death he was chancollor commander of Mammoth Mam-moth lodge of Knights of Pythias. He is survived by a wife and baby. The body will bo sent to Pleasant Green tomorrow to-morrow morning.' avhere funeral services ser-vices will be conducted under the auspices aus-pices of the Knichts of Pythias and Interment will take place. |
