Show COMPLAINT UNDER GAMBLING LAW Salt Lake, July 27. In a complaint issued Wednosday by tho county attorney's at-torney's office, Ralph H. Armstrong, proprietor of tho Acme pharmacy, corner of Ninth East and Tenth South streets, is charged with running run-ning a gambling device for tokens redeemable re-deemable in money. It Is alleged that Joseph Hauser, the complaining witness, wit-ness, played the machine July 19 and mado a winning. Later when he tried to get the cigars from Armstrong for tho checks won tho so-called "trado machine," he charges that he was refused re-fused the cigars. He claims he had ?5 25 worth of checks. Hauser avers that Instead of giving giv-ing the cigars Armstrong offered him $2 in cash for the checks. This, it Is alleged, was the best Armstrong would do. Under the new law It is a felony to maintain a gambling device de-vice used for tokens redeemable in money. This is the first ca.se which has been brought to tho attention of tho authorities of chocks from sloC machines being redeemable in money, and efforts will be made to make this a test case. Tho use of the slot machine has been undecided by the county attorney's attor-ney's office as to whother or not It Ib a misdemeanor or a felony. This, of course, Is In reference to the trade machine. However, with the chargo of hhe checks '"being redeemed iby money tho attorney's office intends to see what can bo done under the new law. |
