Show NEWS NOTES Of WEBERACADEMr Last Monday morning the students flocked back to the school, Invigorated and rested and ready for work. Besides Be-sides all those who registered before Christmas, there were many new ones. The department of agriculture is doing do-ing good work. The aim of the course Is to join the practical with tho theoretical. theo-retical. A largo number of students interested in agriculture visited tho demonstration and exposition train last Tuesday and listened to the addresses ad-dresses by the professors from the agricultural college. On Thursday the school was honored hon-ored by a visit from Dr. WIdtsoe, president pres-ident of the agricultural college. lie expressed himsolf as being much pleased with tho spirit and work in the Academy. ' Tho basket ball boys are practicing hard in preparation for tho league games which begin next week. The first game of the league to bo played in Ogden was to have been between ' tho Academy and tho High School, but owing to the fact that tho High School withdrew from tho league, that game will not bo played. Last Wednesday evening the fourth number of tho lecture course was presented, pre-sented, consisting of a lecture on "The Secret of Music's Power," by W. L. ' Hubbard of Chicago. Mr. Hubbaid was assisted by Mr. Bergen, a fine young baritone, and Mr. Campbell, a pianist Everyone present pronounced this entertalnmont one of the best over presented in Ogden. Prof. Bal-lantyne Bal-lantyne rmarked, "It was true art, educational ed-ucational and uplifting in every particular." par-ticular." The next number on the course will bo Mr. Jno. B. Ratto, reader read-er and impersonator, who will appear next Monday evening, January 1G. ' The Juniors say that something ' great is going to happen next Friday evening. There is already a busy buzzing of preparation, and Ballan-tyne, Ballan-tyne, the class president, and the other officers of the class are full of 'business. It is tho Junior ball and every detail is being worked out to make this tho gieat social event of the season. Mrs Lottie King of tho fnculty has not been back to school since vacation, vaca-tion, because of tho serious illness of her children, who have scarlet fever. I The little ones are now out of danger, ' but it will 'bo some time before the quarantine will be removed. On Friday Principal Henderson and his family were called to Lewiston, Idaho, to attend tho tuneral of Mrs. Wheeler, tho mother of Mrs Henderson. Hender-son. Death came to Mrs. Wheeler sud- t denly and wholly unexpectedly. The j faculty and student body all unite in extending their sympathy to Principal and Mrs. Henderson. |
