Angcrod because be-cause his squaw had transferred her nffectlous to another, Duck Creek Charlie, : frequent offender in the police po-lice courts, brutally assaulted Indian George, his wife's affinity, about mid- ' 1 night last night, with a "sharp-pointed rock. Tho quarrel took fdao in Chinatown, China-town, and was tho culmination of a drunken brawl in which a lunge number num-ber of redskins participated. Holding the helpless Indian under his arms Duck Creek Charllo struck him over the head repeatedly with tho sharp rock, and would have prob-i prob-i ably murdered George had not some of tho other Indians interfered and put i an end to tho uneven struggle. The wounded Indian was later removed re-moved to his camp on tho hillsiujJ west of town. It Is feared that-'his skull is fractured as a result of the murderous attack. Indian George Is In a precarious condition, and but little lit-tle hope Is held out for his recovery. Although no examination has been made, it Is believed that concussion ot the brnln will eventually follow. Duck Creek Chnrlie went in search of his squaw, and after some djfficulty found her liappily entwined in the arms of Indian George. Upbraiding I his wife because she had become tired of living with lilm, the enraged Indian proceeded to beat up the person who had broken up his home. The Interference Inter-ference of several "bucks" (ivho witnessed wit-nessed the quarrel prevented a killing. kill-ing. ' Fparing a beating at the hands of her spouse if she remained on the scone, Charlie's squaw deserted her lover in time of peril. The Indians who were present at tho disturbance are unusually secretive, and havo refused re-fused to reveal the exact causes that led up to the trouble. The affnir has not been reported to the authorities. No arrests have yet been made. It Is said that the Indians have not igiven out any information about the fight because they are afraid that the tale of domestic infelicity might be aired in tlje courts. |
