Show NO LIQUOR IN OflDEN CANYON Unless something be done between now and May 10. those who desire to indulge In a llttlo beer or other malted beverage with their luncheon in Ogden Canyon this soason, will have to carry ft with them from tho city. Tho commissioners refused to jant a liquor license to W G Wilson of The Hermitage and Clifford Potter of the Oaks resorts. Commissioners Moore and Skoen voting against and Chairman Mndson voting for licensing. The action was takeh after hearing the opinion of County Attornoy Jensen Jen-sen regarding the time when the new liquor law shall take effect In his opinion Mr. Jensen stated that the commissioners might grant licenses for the retail of liquors in tho county outside of Ogdon. before May 10, that would remain in force until October 1. of this year The llconso would necessarily neces-sarily have to be granted "before May 10, the attorney contends, because on that day the now liquor law, except as to places where licenses had pre-vlouslv pre-vlouslv been granted for a timo beyond be-yond May 10 will go into effect- Mr. Jensen takes the samo view of the law as other lawyers of the state, contending con-tending that it was tho intention of the state legislature to not Interfere with liquor business already established estab-lished and running undor license of the old law, the object evidently being be-ing to fiive the dealers ample time to close out their business In such a way as not to incur too great a Iosp Commissioner Moore -voted against the selling of liquor In the canyon last year, the two other commissioners, commission-ers, Bybee and Madson. being against him. and ho says he has not changed his mind on the question. Skeen Is a new member of tho board and he is opposed to tho liquor traffic at tho resorts Chairman Madson says he is of tho opinion that there will be much liquor li-quor drinking In tho canyon this soason, soa-son, notwithstanding tho prohibition placed on Its Bale, and that tho county coun-ty will get no revenue from It and that It will be handled in a way that will make it difficult for tho officers to enforce tho prohibition law .He states that "boot logging ' In the canyon will do much more harm than has becn done under tho restrlctod liquor traffic traf-fic of the past and that a groat deal of the summer tourists' business will be driven from Ogdon acnyon |
