The wound healed until no evidence of It remained, except a wound which could have been made with the point of a small nail. About four days ago Cottrell's jaws closed and he could not open them. Forgetting about the wound in" his foot he thought the lockjaw was the result of chewing gum. Tuesday he was taken to the Holy Cross hospital and the case was declared to be te- , 'tanus. The body of the patient was perfectly per-fectly rigid as if he had been in a cataleptic state and his only pain was violent spasms which Increased In Intensity In-tensity until the end. He managed to talk, however, through his closed teeth. Anti-toxin was administered, but tho patient was too far advanced In the disease for It to prove effective. effec-tive. Opiates were used to reduce the pain during the spasms. Funeral arrangements ha-ve not been made. |
