Show , USAC Head On Legislation Body Collet Group Will Study Post-War Plans Dr. E. G. Peterson, president of Utah State Agricultural college and University of Wisconsin, have been University of Wisonsin, have been appointed to represent the Ameri-an Ameri-an Association of Land-Grant colleges and Universities at congressional con-gressional hearings to be held in Washington, D. C, January 10, on post-war legislation providing for the training of returning mem-r mem-r bers of the armed forces, according accord-ing to an announcement made by Dr. C. B. Hutchinson of the University Uni-versity of California, president of the association. President Peterson left Thursday Thurs-day for the hearings .which will be held at the. time of the meetings meet-ings of the Executive Committee of the Association, January 10 to ' 12. Dr. Peterson is a member of this committee representing the western states. At the Executive Committee meetings Extension and Experiment Experi-ment Station appropriations will be considered in connection with the labor problem in agriculture for the next year. The labor supply sup-ply problem of the past harvest year was delegated by Congress to the Extension Service, and consideration con-sideration of the details of next year's program will be given detailed de-tailed consideration with the Secretary Sec-retary of Agriculture and the National Na-tional Food Administrator. The post-wrar education bill now under consideration in Congress provides for payment to the returned re-turned service men and women at the rate of from $50 to $75 per s month with extra allowances for married men and dependents. From one to as many 'as four years of training are provided for eligible men and women who desire de-sire same on being demobilized. It is believed that this legislation legisla-tion will insure a large increase in enrollment in colleges following follow-ing the 'war, President Peterson said. The legislation is designed not only to aid the service men and women in their plans for education edu-cation but also to aid in over-( over-( coming the large deficit of trained men and women in the various scientific and professional fields in the national interest. |
