Show USAC to Stage Grand Opera Dates Set By Music Head Highlighting the music season at Utah State Agricultural college col-lege will be presentation of the opera "Martha" the second week in April, Professor W. H. Manning head of the college vocal music department, announced today. Formerly scheduled for March 2 and 3, the opera has been moved up to the first week of spring quarter to escape the end-of-quarter rush, he explained. He has appealed to male students stud-ents with singing ability to try out for the major parts as well as ' chorus positions. Tryouts for principal prin-cipal roles will be held next week and students interested in chorus work were urged to contact Professor Pro-fessor Manning. Professor N. W. Christiansen, head of the college instrumental music department, will direct the orchestra. Among outstanding operas presented pre-sented during the past several years are "Rigolctto'' by Verdi; "Faust" by Gounod; "La Traviata" by Verdi, and "The Student Prince" by Franz Shubert. Professor Manning, former head of vocal music at Branch Agricultural Agricul-tural college, has in the past years presented a colorful opera season each year in Southern Utah and has directed operas in both Wisconsin and California. |
