Show Pioneer Resident Of Richmond Dies Francis Adam Bair, 91, resident of Richmond for 85 years and one of the pioneer settlers of that community, died early Thursday morning at the home of a daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs. J. Henry Watts in Smithfield, of causes incident tc age. He was the oldest living resident resi-dent of Richmond. Mr. Bair was born February 28, 1851 in Kaysville, a son of John and Jerusha Ann Richardson Bair. When he wgs six years of age tlx family moved to Brower sprints and they settled in the fort whert ;he Richmond business district now is located. He attended public school in .Richmond and, in his early lil. w'orked at Promontory with t'n Jnion Pacific railroad. He witnessed wit-nessed the driving of the golden ,pike that connected the Unioii Pacific and Southern Pacific systems. sys-tems. In -1371 he drove a mule team from Corinne to Fort Benton Ben-ton on the Missouri river, making three trips in two years. Later he was employed by the Utah Northern railroad (the Oregon Ore-gon Shortline) and in 1881 drove freight wagons from Dillon, Mont., into the northwestern territory and Alberta, Canada. His father had taught him the Indian language lan-guage and he did not encounter any troubles that usually were associated with such trips. Mr. Bair, after he settled in Richmond, was a prominent farmer. farm-er. He had served as justice of the peace, icity marshal, w)alter supervisor and street supervisor. He married Maria Elizabeth Brower, February 17, 1873 in the old - Salt Lake Endowment house. She died December 29, 1939. Survivors include the following sons and daughters: Riley Bair, San Diego, Cal.; Henry, Joseph O., La Mont and Amos W. Bair, Richmond; Mrs. Jerusha Preece, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Leona Watts, Smithfield, end Mrs. Edna wis, Richmond, 28 grandchildren, grandchild-ren, 21 great grandchildren, and ane great great grandchild.
