Show Burma Road Remains Important Military Object ? r v 1 ' v I i -" ? . - V ' A V-V V 7 x M I This section of the Burma road in China was taken by a signal corps photographer. The China-Burma-India theater of war contains 24 switchbacks as shown in this photograph. Even before America entered the war, engineers from American military and civil life were cooperating with the Chinese in the improvement and development of this highway system. The road is essential to China. It serves as the only line of communication, com-munication, outside of air, that serves a vast portion of the country. The road has been under air bombardment bombard-ment almost continually since the start of the Chinese-Japanese war. |
