Show Unique Crops Seed Growing Proves Profitable In addition to producing an excellent crop ,of the "standard" products this year, some Cache county farmers have been experimenting ex-perimenting profitably with unusual un-usual farm products. County Agent Lloyd R. Hunsaker reported report-ed today. William R. Zollinger of Providence Pro-vidence and his son, Jesse Zollinger Zol-linger of Logan, have successfully successful-ly raised 1C60 pounds of sage of the seasoning variety on one and one-half acres of land. With a price of 75 cents a pound, the crop grossed $1100 above freight charges. Exploring the possibilities of raising vegetable seed commercially commer-cially in Cache Valley, several farmers contracted with a Salt Lake City seed firm to raise seed. Production included. Enough root stocks of carrots to grow 60 acres of carrot seed next year, 60,000 pounds of lettuce let-tuce seed grown on 12 acres, enough onion sets grown to plant about 12 acres of onions to be harvested next year, and 31,500 pounds of beet seed grown on 15 and three-fourths acres which sold at 11 cents a poimd to gross $3465. |
